History: History: Antique jewelry from 1890-1920 is categorized within the Victorian, Art Nouveau or Edwardian era. The Art Nouveau era (c.1890-1915) often emphasized the natural world and means 'New Art'. The designs were very artisan and ethereal-themed. This period overlapped with both the Victorian and Edwardian jewelry eras. The Edwardian era (c.1900-1920) was named after English king Edward VII, and consisted of delicate jewelry pieces that were considered sophisticated & 'softer'. Popular designs in the Edwardian Era were ornamental motifs and delicate lace detailing. 17th and 18th century architecture & jewelry were inspirations in the Edwardian Era.
